Love In The Dark

Typically held in a darkened room illuminated by tealight candles, the LWGRC offers a safe space for college students to ask questions and discuss sensitive topics such as sex, relationships and intimacy.

Love In The Dark

The Pop Song Professor project is all about helping music lovers like you to better understand the deeper meanings of popular song lyrics so that you know what your artist is saying and can enjoy your music more.

Adele begins Verse 1 by singing, "Take your eyes off of me so I can leave / I'm far too ashamed to do it with you watching me." She wants to leave the relationship, but her heart still pulls her back to this person who part of her thinks maybe she shouldn't be leaving. And this isn't the first time that she's tried to make this decision: "This is never ending, we have been here before / But I can't stay this time 'cause I don't love you anymore." She has finally made a permanent decision and plans to stick with it.

In the Chorus, she sings, "I can't love you in the dark." Their relationship is in a bad place for her; it leaves her with uncertainty, and she wants a relationship that's "well-lit" and has direction, purpose, or certainty. She sings about they have different purposes or personalities when she "we're oceans apart / There is so much space between us." She's different--"everything changed me"--and believes they may be "already defeated" and that it's not worth trying to salvage this wrecked relationship.

Hi! I'm a university writing center director who teaches literature classes and loves helping others to understand the deeper meanings of their favorite songs. I'm married to my beautiful wife April and love Twenty One Pilots, Mumford & Sons, Kishi Bashi, and so many others!

Lost in the Darkness/LoveNameLost in the Darkness/LoveArtistFinnBreezyPrincess BubblegumRuntime1:38Played inBreezyVideoLost in the Darkness/Love is a duet sung by Breezy and Finn in "Breezy." In "Lost in the Darkness," Finn describes his apathetic state brought on by recent events while Breezy sings of her love toward Finn's arm flower. In "Love" (which is a part two to the song "Lost in the Darkness"), Finn's heart is stirred by Breezy's deep expressions of love, as she appears in the forest and begins to sing. This causes him to vividly recall the sensation of love and Breezy is replaced by a vision of Princess Bubblegum, who also takes part in the duet.

Set in India, England, Trinidad and St Lucia, Love the Dark Days follows the story of a girl, Poppet, born of mixed Hindu-Muslim parentage in post-independence India. When she lives with her grandmother, member of an elite Muslim family, whose history is one of having colluded with the brutality of the British rule in India, Poppet unconsciously imbibes her grandmother's prejudices of class and race. As the darker child in her family, this makes her feel that she does not belong, leading to an over-anxiety to please the adults around her. That feeling of unbelonging is repeated when her family migrates to multicultural Trinidad, made up of people from many continents, where she encounters Indian people, several generations away from India, who have a very different sense of themselves, who appear critical of what they perceive as her airs and graces. She begins writing about her experiences as a way of trying to make sense of them. In her darkest hour, she meets Nobel Laureate Derek Walcott, who encourages her, when she visits him in St Lucia over a weekend, to leave the past behind and reinvent herself. All this takes place in a society suffering a crisis of order -- an attempted coup by Muslim extremists and a rising crime rate with reported incidents of spectacular brutality. Can she, through her writing, examine each broken shard of her shattered family relations and reassemble it into a new shape in a new world? Can she make sense of herself in relation both to her own family and the Trinidadian family she marries into, and grow enough to achieve the courage it takes simply to be human? Raw, unflinching, but not without threads of humour and perceived absurdity, Love the Dark Days is an intricate tapestry telling of the end of empire that has Poppet's story at its heart. 041b061a72
