I hope you’re all doing well! I’m currently working on my first children’s book, and I’ve reached the stage where I need to hire an illustrator for a children's book. Since illustrations are such a huge part of bringing a story to life, I want to make sure I choose the right person.
I’m looking for advice on:

What qualities or skills I should look for
How much budget I should expect
Whether I should sign a contract or work on a per-project basis
Any common mistakes I should avoid
