As of April 2023, "Blinding Lights" by Canadian singer the Weeknd is the most-streamed song of all time on Spotify, while "Dance Monkey" by Australian singer-songwriter Tones and I is the most-streamed song by a female artist. Canadian singer Justin Bieber has the most songs in the top 100 most-streamed songs list with six entries, while English-Albanian singer Dua Lipa has the most songs in the top 100 for a female artist with four entries.

Prior to February 2014, Spotify's most-streamed song was "Radioactive" by American pop band Imagine Dragons. Since then, six songs have claimed the top ranking, the longest time being "Shape of You" by English singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran.

The most streamed song in UK chart history, Shape of You tops the list of Ed Sheeran's biggest songs. The lead single from his album (released alongside Castle On The Hill) spent a mammoth 14 non-consecutive weeks at Number 1. Across its original version plus various remixes that featured Stormzy, Nyla & Kranium, Yxng Bane and Lennox & Zion, the song has been streamed a whopping 475 million times, and is approaching one million paid-for sales with 853,000 downloads. Shape of You's total combined sales stand at 5.09 million.


To put the British pop star's accomplishment into perspective, the record for the most appearances on the Hot 100 (the American version of the top 100 songs list) is 20. Drake moved the bar even higher than where it already rested last May when his new album Views was released.

As It Was also lays claim to another title this year - that of 2022's biggest first week for a single in the UK. In its opening seven days, As It Was pushed past 94,000 chart units, more than any other track this year.


As for the fastest-seller in its first week based on pure sales, that honour goes to LadBaby's record-breaking Official Christmas Number 1, Food Aid. The charity track totalled over 59,000 first-week copies, becoming the most-downloaded song of the year in the process too.


Dance music was also back in a big way this year, spearheaded by two rising UK acts who scored their first UK Number 1 singles; LF SYSTEM's Afraid To Feel (9) and Eliza Rose & Interplanetary Criminal's B.O.T.A (Baddest Of Them All) (24) rank as two of the greatest successes of the year.


Other major dance releases include Irish duo Belters Only's Make Me Feel Good ft. Jazzy (12), Where Did You Go by Jax Jons ft. MNEK (16), Australian DJ Luude's hit Down Under with Colin Hay (23), and I'm Good (Blue) by David Guetta & Bebe Rexha (25) which spent a week at Number 1, netting Bebe her first chart-topper in the UK.


Immediately flying in at No.1 in the UK upon its release in June 2021, Bad Habits was a delectable dance-pop tune that instantly asserted itself as one of the best Ed Sheeran songs.
