One Week Friends
High school student and aspiring artist Yuki Hase falls in love at first sight with Kaori Fujimiya after the latter narrowly manages to pass down a borrowed French dictionary Yuki left behind inside a train.[9] To his joy, Yuki learns that he and Kaori share class for their second year. However, Kaori seems to have forgotten their meeting. When he introduces himself again, she rejects his offer of friendship. Yuki later finds out that she has similarly rejected other offers since her transfer 3 months ago and is thus regarded as a pariah within the school.[10]
Nevertheless, Yuki strives for Kaori's friendship, gaining the attention of his teacher, Mr. Inoue. Inoue tells him that due to an accident, Kaori suffers from both retrograde and anterograde amnesia; any memory other than that of her parents is suppressed after a week. Undaunted, Yuki has made up his mind to become Kaori's friend in any way. To remind her of him and other things, he gives her a shared journal, where the two can share their memories every week. By this method, the two slowly grow closer and Kaori becomes more and more open.
In summer, Yuki invites Kaori to attend a fireworks festival alongside his friends Shogo Kiryu and Saki Yamagishi. There, Kaori runs into her middle school friends, Hajime Kujo and Mayu Kondo, the former of whom has just transferred from Sapporo to the same Tokyo school as Yuki and Kaori. Unable to remember them, Kaori attempts to excuse herself, but experiences flashbacks when Kujo calls her a "traitor" and passes out. When she wakes up, she appears to remember him in personal terms.
Yuuki Hase reallys wants to befriend Kaori Fujimiya, the girl in his class who seems to be withdrawn and is always alone. Just when he thinks a friendship is blossoming between the two of them, she tells him her secret: Every week, her memories reset. Yuuki resolves to befriend her as many times as it takes, but is he prepared to face the possible pain of being one-week friends?
The premise is that one day while running an errand for a teacher, high schooler Yuuki Hase comes to realize that solitary classmate Kaori Fujimiya is not the ice queen he thought she was, so he offers to become friends with her. She oddly refuses.
Yuuki finds this difficult to believe until the following Monday when Kaori gives him a hostile look in class when he greets her. But undeterred, Yuuki resolves to tell her at the start of every week that he wants to be her friend.
In the second episode, Yuuki manages to convince Kaori that they had become friends, and when she thinks about it, she realizes she had no memory of what she had done during lunch for the past week, so Yuuki must be telling the truth. Happy to have someone who is okay with her condition, the two of them form a plan where she writes a diary of events important to her so she can remember what her mind forgets, and Kaori hangs a sign on her bedroom door to remind herself every Monday morning to read her diary before going to school.
High schooler Yūki Hase notices that his classmate Kaori Fujimiya is always alone, and seemingly has no friends. After approaching her and attempting to become friends, it seems that he is successful until Friday, when Kaori reveals that she loses every memory of her friends each Monday. Despite learning this, Yūki endeavors to become her new friend every week.
Aloof Dark-Haired Girl: Kaori originally, though her aloofness was just an act to avoid making friends and potentially hurting them every week.
Arc Words: "Please be friends with me". It's what Hase says to Kaori every week.
Book Dumb: Hase, especially at mathematics. Saki too.
Broken Bird: Kaori's condition started at elementary school and lasted for ten years, which has led to her developing a facade to protect herself from the pain of forgetting her friends.
Brutal Honesty: Shougo sees no need to sugercoat his words.
Cloudcuckoolander: Saki has an odd, almost childlike way of looking at the world.
The Ditz: Saki's a bit of an airhead.
Easy Amnesia: Kaori loses every memory of her friends each Monday.
Notably, Kaori doesn't lose memory of those she does not consider to be her friends, which fortunately includes her family.
Friendless Background: Kaori's amnesia, which she got in elementary school, causes this.
Grew a Spine: The first aesop Shougo taught to Kaori upon their first meeting at the rooftop.
Innocently Insensitive: Because she is focusing on forming platonic relationships, Kaori tends to overlook romantic implications her actions can have, causing Hase much frustration.
Middle Child Syndrome: Shougo's dislike against women in general is caused by his position as the only son in his family. His elder sister always bosses him around while his younger sibling cries a lot.
Mood Whiplash: The transfer student's appearance, relation and response to Kaori's past in chapter 14.
Odd Friendship: Yuki and Shougo. They're nothing alike, but the fact that they're on a First-Name Basis with each other hints that they're actually quite close.
Shipper on Deck: Both Fujimiya's mom and Saki seem to ship Hase and Fujimiya.
Sickeningly Sweet: In-universe example. In episode 3, Shougo claims that Hase and Kaori's friendship is sickeningly sweet to the point where looking at them kills his appetite.
The Power of Friendship: Hase's constant efforts to create good memories with Kaori, despite it being supposedly reset at the end of each week, is not entirely fruitless. Kaori begins to retain bits and pieces of her memories even after the reset. Despite that, certain triggers can undo all the effort put in by Hase.
The Stoic: Kaori, although her stoicness is mostly a facade.
Also, Hase's friend, Shougo.
Wham Line: Episode 9 has one.'Hajime: [to Kaori] You broke our promise. You traitor.
Also chapter 17/episode 10 when Saki says to Kiryuu: "Kiryuu-kun, we can be family!"
Kaori tells Hajime she probably can't remember him because he was her friend, then sees her "friends" from her past who bullied her for "stealing" Hajime and gets a tiny flash of memory, causing her to run away, after which Yuki confronts Hajime
Yea this episode was great. Showed that it has more to offer than cute time. Reminds me how I used to be two different person with friends and without when I was younger, by lack of confidence and trust. When the girls were saying that Fujimya was snob it really reminded me of those times. Really surprised me when I learned that it was the general first opinion of people on me ahah.
In just one week friends and families will start to gather around together and share a great Thanksgiving feast. Though for some seniors in the area, finding a place to go or friends to be around can be difficult. And that is why the little brothers friends of the elderly are excited to bring back their annual Thanksgiving day meals. Each dinner plate will come with all of the fixings, that one can desire. And there will even be a chance to join in fellowship with friends and strangers in the area.
Little Brothers Friends of the Elderly are nearly ready to spread some holiday joy this week. Thursday, for thanksgiving, the group plans to bring seniors together for a nice meal and fellowship. There are a number of meal delivery and in person meal sites throughout the copper country and in Marquette. Little Brothers is seeking a few more volunteers to help at some specific sites. The group needs multiple volunteers for one of their largest meal sites, St Ignatius in Houghton. The group is seeking cooks, delivery drivers, and volunteers who will help serve meals to seniors. Other sites still in need of volunteers are their locations in the Calumet area. If you are interested in volunteering this Thanksgiving and joining Copper Country seniors for a fun and delicious meal, contact the Little Brothers Friends of the Elderly office in Hancock, at 906 482-6944. Volunteers should expect to help at their meal site for a few hours. Contact LBFE for more information on volunteering, meal opportunities, and Thanksgiving meal deliveries. 041b061a72
