Five.Easy.Pieces (1970).mkv [Extra Quality]

How does the C1 work as a media player. I just want to plug in a USB HDD and play .mkv (HVEC and x264) files and have the HD audio pass through to the AVR. Can the C1 doe this and and remove the need for my WDTV and VodaTV?
