Plot summary
The film begins with Ethan Hunt intercepting a shipment of nerve gas being moved by the Syndicate, a shadowy organization of rogue agents from various intelligence agencies. Ethan escapes from their capture with the help of Ilsa Faust, a British agent who is undercover in the Syndicate. Ethan then contacts his friend and colleague William Brandt, but Brandt informs him that the Impossible Mission Force (IMF) has been disbanded by CIA director Alan Hunley, who considers Ethan and his team to be reckless and unreliable. Ethan decides to go rogue and pursue the Syndicate on his own. Months later, Ethan recruits his former teammates Benji Dunn and Luther Stickell to join him in his mission.
